The DS03 is a MADI data recorder, intended as a secure backup device in live and broadcast applications. The unit records an input MADI data stream to an internal SATA RAID array. The DS03 makes no attempt to decode the input MADI stream. Raw MADI data is recorded to the internal hard drives as received, using a proprietary disk format optimized for speed and security. The disk format is highly robust, and is optimized for speed and recovery. Recordings can be time stamped using either the onboard clock, or the balanced LTC (longitudinal timecode) input. Ethernet control allows the recorder to be monitored or controlled via a PC based GUI or through any web browser. Previously recorded data can be streamed to a remote location via the Ethernet link. For security, the DS03 is an embedded design, meaning the unit is not PC or computer based. There is no on-board operating system, or boot drive. Dual universal power supplies are fitted for redundancy, and front panel LED's give status of the onboard Raid, internal temperature and other critical parameters. Control The DS03 has full front panel 'local' control, in addition to remote control over local or wide area networks, through the open source OSC protocol. An LCD screen and four soft keys offer easy access to setup and other features. A PC based GUI offers control of all parameters, with full access to the drive data for remote access. Alternatively the onboard web server allows access from any modern web browser. Form-Factor The DS03 is intended to perform with minimal user intervention, but is also space conscious. The unit is housed in a 2u, 19" rack mount case, important in live applications where space is a premium. There is no requirement for an air gap either above or below the unit. Venting is through the side panels.
