D-Stage is a co-development with Paul Wolff’s Tonelux. The D-Stage digital Stagebox is a versatile configurable I/O platform. When fitted with the Tonelux relay controlled microphone preamps and the acclaimed Desono digital converters, the unit can convert microphone signals into PCM or DSD digital data and send up to 64 channels over a single optical fiber. Optional 8 channel cards are plugged in from the rear of the unit. The functionality, form factor and outstanding performance set a new benchmark for the pro-audio industry. Full duplex coaxial and optical MADI are fitted as standard, and the unit can transmit and receive data in PCM or DSD formats. Although D-Stage supports standard MADI modes, an additional proprietary Desono mode supports transmission of up to 64 channels of DSD over a single fiber. Three card options are available.
Each remote preamp converter card houses 8 channels of Paul Wolff designed relay controlled mic-preamps combined with Desono multi-format analog to digital converters. Control D-Stage is optimized for remote operation and common to all Desono products is the ability to be controlled remotely over a network using the OSC protocol. The control network can be intranet or internet. The current IP address is displayed on the front panel. A gain range of 10-65dB (with digital readout) is available. In addition every channel has multiple control parameters, all relay controlled, including polarity, 20dB and 6dB pads, and a 48V phantom power enable. A digital readout of the phantom power at the microphone gives an indication of microphone current draw. The pre-amp stage can be bypassed for line level signals. Each channel can be added to a PFL summing bus and a unique auto-gain feature allows snapshot setting of gain for selected channels when time is tight.
